I first encountered Elaine Corvidae in 2001, when I was responsible for shipping out all the Dream Realm Awards. Elaine was one of the winners and I even got to read some of her work. Recently I was reintroduced to Elaine (or introduced in the first place, since she didn't know me at all) when she stumbled upon AIfH and asked if I might add her to my list of victims. Mission accomplished. (G)

Steve:  Given the supposition that in real life you're a character in another author's story; are you the protagonist, the antagonist, the damsel in distress, the sidekick, or something else entirely?

Elaine:  I’m the comic relief.

Steve:  What is your favorite color's favorite song?

Elaine:  Black Magic Woman.

Steve:  You can cast a movie about your life. Who would play in which roles?

Elaine:  I would play myself and Johnny Depp would play my love interest. Did I mention it would be XXX rated (only without the cheesy music)? If movie adaptations of books can take liberties with the plot, then I firmly believe that an adaptation of my life story should do the same thing.

Steve:  What type of predator would find your flesh tasty?

Elaine:  A vulture.

Steve:  What piece of fiction do you wish was not fiction? Why?

Elaine:  That’s a hard question, because in most really good fiction the characters suffer horribly, at least in some part of the book. Much more fun to read about than experience in real life.

I suppose I wish that any fiction showing humanity someday having a real, viable space program was real, because it would mean that we would finally get our act together and get serious about space exploration.

Steve:  You currently operate your computer with a mouse. What other animals might play a prominent part in the future of computing?

Elaine:  I predict we will soon have the OSPREY (Operating System Perfected by Rowdy English Yokels), the FOWL (Free Online Web Link), and the MARMOSET (MAcs Rule Most Other Systems Everywhere Today).

Steve:  What do you like to do when you're alone and no one can see you?

Elaine:  Shake my groove thang.

Steve:  By what words would you like to be remembered?

Elaine:  “At last, my plans for world domination have been fulfilled! BWAHAHAHA!”

Steve:  This is an interview, dammit, promote yourself!

Elaine:  First off, I would like to let readers know that I have several spec fic short stories available on my website absolutely FREE. The URL is http://www.onecrow.net.

I tend to write character-driven stories with some very odd protagonists. Because I’ve been reading spec fic my entire life, I’ve pretty much seen it all, so when it comes to writing I tend to take a different path. My stories seldom end up where they first appear to be going.

If this sounds good to you, you might check out some of my books. WOLFKIN (the first book in my Lord of Wind and Fire trilogy) has recently been re-released by Mundania Press, LLC. I have a Bronze Age sword-and-sorcery series, TYRANT MOON and HERETIC SUN, available from Novelbooks, Inc. And THE GHOST EATER, in which a madwoman and an undead shaman must save the world, is scheduled to come out sometime in 2004 from Double Dragon Publishing.
